Students, staff and parents at Stationers’ Crown Woods Academy have pulled out all the stops to support The Metropolitan Police Commissioner’s Christmas Tree Project 2016.
Galvanised into action through assemblies led by Deputy Head of Sherwood School, Hayley Williams, each tutor group across the Academy raised money and bought presents for a vulnerable child in the Royal Borough of Greenwich aged 11 – 16 years.
“This appeal has bought students, parents and staff together. Our original target was to provide 50 presents but when we did the final count this morning we totally smashed it and it is with huge pride that SCWA have given a total of 90 presents.” said Hayley Williams.
Collecting the presents were PC Ian O’Hara and PC Becky Ring from Eltham Police, Safer Schools Division who were both ‘overwhelmed’ by the sheer volume of presents. “This is by far the largest amount of presents we’ve collected from any of the Borough schools, it’s a good job we brought the van!” said PC Ring. “I bet Father Christmas is feeling the pressure right now” joked PC O’Hara as students helped pile the presents into the van.
Executive Principal, David Millar, said: “I am very proud of the students and would like to thank them and their families for their generosity in helping to make Christmas a little brighter this year for other children within the Borough.”
