During Wellbeing time, Ms Costa’s tutor group read the poem ‘Pretty Ugly’ which was written by a young person who suffers from low self-esteem.
Students shared their views and opinions:……
“It’s fascinating how it still makes perfect sense, when it is read the other way round, which highlights how important it is to have the right frame of mind.”
“I don’t think this is about appearance at all. I think it talks about the beauty of people (inside out) and how we are our own biggest critics, but imagine being our own biggest supporters – the world would be a better place, I think. No, I don’t think – I know.”
“Wow, Miss, thank you so much for sharing this with us. With me. I think negatively one too many times and sometimes, it’s a simple, yet beautiful reminder like this one that REALLY makes you think.”
“We must stop internalising other people’s versions of us. Everyone is entitled to their own opinion, but the idea they have of us, is just one version – does that make sense? It does not make up who we are. We must decide who we are and that all begins with a single thought like this one”.
