Students and staff are celebrating another strong year of Post 16 results where students have achieved the best overall attainment outcomes since joining Leigh Academies Trust. and are delighted that sixth form academic results continue to improve against a landscape of change within Post 16 education.
Initial headline figures show an overall pass rate of 97% at A Level with 35% of students gaining top grades of A*-B. Mathematics, Economics, History, Art & Design and Design Technology (Product Design) were the top-performing subjects.
Vocational subjects also performed exceptionally well and the Academy reports it has maintained its average grade across the cohort at Distinction* minus.
Associate Principal, Fazal Rahman, said: “Students and teachers have worked extremely hard and as a result, many of our students will be enrolling on courses at the university of their choice. It’s a great achievement for all concerned and I would like to congratulate our Year 13 students.”
Norman Doyle, Head of Sixth Form, was delighted to share news of Arden students’ achievements. “Watching students open their envelopes and seeing their anxiety turn into smiles of relief and joy, is so rewarding. I am absolutely thrilled for our students and would like to pay tribute to the Sixth Form team who have supported them over the past two years.”
Amongst the many individual success stories the top performers include:
Feyi Kolapo was overwhelmed by his results: Maths A, Biology, A, Chemistry A, Psychology A who will now be studying Medicine at Kings – “I didn’t expect it” he said. He is the first in his family to get to Med School.
Annie Osborn: was thrilled with her results: Business Studies A*, Fine Art A, Geography B and plans to go to Fashion School for a year before taking an apprenticeship.
When Roberto Rodriques joined SCWA from Brazil three years ago, he had to take his GCSE Maths and English. Today he was celebrating his A Levels, achieving A* in Portugese, A in Maths, A in Chemistry and B in Physics. “The exams were really hard” he said. He plans to study medicine at Queen Mary’s.
Jaivir Bahra had to be reassured his DDD grades in Business Extended Diploma were true! His grades means he has secured an academic scholarship of £1,000 to study Business & Operational Management at Bournemouth University.
Shubham Rathod was delighted with his results: Chemistry A*, Maths A, Physics A and has secured his place to study Mechanical Engineering at Warwick. Fellow student Koyinsola Fashola: Soc A, Psychology A, Chemistry B and intends to study Psychology at Birmingham. Norman Doyle, Head of Sixth Form, congratulated them on their results.
Lillian Bird achieved English B, Fine Art A*, History A, Psychology A and is going to study History at Kings.
Year 12 student, Joshua Baker, is an exceptionally gifted Maths student and having achieved A* at A Level Maths and Further Maths last year (when in Year 11), this year has been studying Additional Further Maths and has had to complete all 6 modules of the course in just one year as it is finishing. The standard of maths is the equivalent to degree level and today he was overjoyed to find he has achieved an A*.
Luka Feric was thrilled to achieve Maths A, Media Studies A, Creative Digital Media Distinction* and is looking forward to studying Animation at Greenwich
