On Friday 27th January we held our annual Sports Personality of the Year at SCWA. 2012 are extremely proud of the work we do with the students in PE and this is an opportunity to celebrate the wonderful and inspiring talent that they demonstrate through their Sports.
We were very lucky to have three guest speakers at the event and all talked about their personal careers and opportunities in sport. Jamie Day, Gillingham Utd FC first team coach and ex Arsenal professional player; Danny Murphy, ex professional player for QPR, Motherwell, and U21 Republic of Ireland International team; and Brian Whittaker, Sidcup Rugby Club coach.
Participation Awards were given out to Years 7,8,10 and 12 for those students who regularly attend enrichment and/or compete in a sport and represent the Academy. The awarding of Half and Full Colours is a tradition used in Sport since 1829. Half colours were given to Year 9 pupils who have consistently represented and played in a sport for the whole of KS3. Full Colours were given to pupils in Year 11 who have continued with their sport at KS4. Honours are given to students in Year 13 who show at dedication and commitment to their sport at KS5.
All students were given one vote for a Sports Personality from their school. There was then an overall winner for Sports Personality from each of the Schools.
