The DSP is for Pupils with Moderate Learning Difficulties at Stationers’ Crown Woods Academy. Staff support pupils with MLD all of whom receive full time shared support across the board of the NC curriculum either in the mainstream schools or in the DSP. Our pupils follow a balanced differentiated curriculum, tailored to their specific individual abilities and needs in accordance with the long-term objectives as recorded in their statements of SEN. We aim to enable our pupils to achieve their maximum potential.

Alternative Curriculum

pic1The DSP pupils attend weekly life skills – literacy lessons, where activities are appropriately differentiated to the specific pupils’ abilities and needs, allowing the pupils to make progress with their literacy skills at their own pace.

pic2DSP pupils attend weekly life skills cookery and home management classes in the DSP. They practise following step-by-step instructions to cook a range of delicious dishes themselves. Pupils develop awareness of hygiene as well as health and safety in the kitchen and progress with their independence skills in preparation for adulthood and independent living.
 The DSP pupils develop their creativity, artistic touch, fine motor skills as well as their knowledge of famous artists’ work and painting techniques in Entry Level Art and Craft lessons.

Speech and Language Therapy (SALT)

DSP pupils benefit from weekly specialist Speech and Language Therapy input.

Specialist staff  deliver a range of valuable language, social and communication skills as well as life skills sessions targeted at the specific individual needs of our pupils in accordance with their Statements of SEN.


TITAN – Independent Travel Training

The pupils develop awareness of road safety and learn how to read road signs, bus / train timetables, plan journeys, resulting in boosting their confidence in travelling on public transport.
