Careers Education at SCWA (Update) – 10th January 2022

Dear Parents/Carers

Happy New Year!

I am delighted to write to you to update you on two initiatives that are being introduced this academic year to support your child with all important career information, education, advice and guidance. Careers education is an area that Stationers’ Crown Woods Academy are fully committed to as we understand the importance of opening students’ minds to the wealth of exciting careers available alongside supporting students when it comes to ensuring that they are in the best position to be successful in their post 16 / 18 applications and beyond.

Unifrog – The Complete Destinations Platform

In line with our commitment to provide students with outstanding careers guidance and tailored support when choosing their next step after school or sixth form, we will now be using Unifrog; an award-winning, online careers platform. The Uniforg platform will be launched to all students across Year 7-13.  Students will engage with the platform on a regular basis in both tutor time and in lessons. In tutor time, age appropriate sessions will take place throughout the academic year to allow students to explore career pathways whilst also accessing independent, impartial advice and guidance on next steps via the exploration of the wide range of Post 16 and Post 18 options available. Additionally, the platform will be used to help students successfully apply to opportunities and courses by guiding them through the process of writing their personal statement, applications and CVs. In lessons, there will be an emphasis on educating students on career options linked to each subject and exploring aspects such as labour market information so students are aware of all important trends in career sectors enabling them to make informed decisions about their futures.

Careers Google Classrooms

In order to keep students fully informed when it comes to careers, and to get them involved in activities and to advertise opportunities that might be of interest to them, each year group now has their own careers google classroom.  Each google classroom includes regular updates including short ‘job of the week’ videos alongside age appropriate activities, including virtual work experience and insight events, competitions, STEM events and much more.  All students should already be signed into the careers google classroom.  Please encourage your child to participate in activities to broaden their understanding of potential career pathways and to get them involved in as many activities as possible to help build their experience and skill base ready for later applications.

The above two developments will support us in being able to provide all students with a stable careers programme; giving students the opportunity to prepare for key transitions and to help support them with their journey through life, learning and work.  We hope that the students find the new initiatives beneficial and will open their minds to the opportunities that are available in our rapidly changing world.

Yours sincerely
