Dear Parent & Carers,
Year 10 & 12 Mock Exams
This week marks the start of the year 10 & 12 mock examination period and we want to ensure that we do our very best to support your child to be successful.
These mock exams will ensure that your child fully understands the formal JCQ examination regulations and provide all pupils with a genuine experience of examinations. They will also enable students to put their revision strategies into practice and this work will support them in the long-term retention of vital knowledge. The feedback your child will receive from these mocks will indicate where they need to focus their revision in the future and will provide your child’s teachers with a clear indication of where they may need additional support to be able to achieve their full potential.
Exam Dates & Timetables
These exams will be taking place from Thursday 8th June and running in between the official exams, until the first week of July. The mock examination timetables are now available on My Child at School and students have received a hard copy during tutor time. Please note that some exams will be held during normal lessons rather than in the main exam venue, this is indicated on the timetable as that exam will have no room or seat information.
Exam Expectations
Students should continue to attend normal lessons when examinations are not taking place. All morning exams will start promptly at 9am and afternoon exams will start promptly at 1pm.
As a reminder of the expectations during examinations, pupils will store all of their belongings before being escorted to the exam venue where we will undertake checks and searches.
In terms of equipment, all students are required to bring the following in a clear pencil case for all exams:
- Black pen, HB pencil, ruler, rubber, sharpener, highlighter
- Calculator (without lids)
- Maths set (protractor, compass, etc)
Students may also bring a bottle of water, in a clear bottle with no label.
All students must follow the JCQ exam regulations, you can find further information about the rules here. We have promoted this in school but please remind your child of these to ensure they understand what is expected.
We would like to point out the following regulations specifically:
- Any electronic devices (including mobile phones, iPads, iPod/MP3 players, headphones/airpods, wrist watches, vapes or other data or communication devices) or written notes (e.g. revision flashcards) are strictly prohibited in any exam room.
- There must be no communication once pupils have entered the exam room – if assistance is required then students must raise their hand and wait for a member of staff to assist.
- Students are required to stay in the exam room for the entire examination until dismissed.
Access Arrangements
Our SENCO, Ms Entela Dervishi, has put in place access arrangements based on the current evidence we have of pupil need. If you have any queries about access arrangements then you can contact her by email (entela.dervishi@scwa.org.uk). Please note, that a diagnosis of SEN does not automatically qualify pupils for access arrangements and we must follow JCQ guidelines.
