Dear Parents/Carers,
We are delighted to inform you of this important information as our Year 9 students move into the next phase of their educational journey at Stationers’ Crown Woods Academy.
Traditionally the Key Stage 4 pathways process would start with an onsite event consisting of a presentation in the main hall followed by a subject fayre which would involve parents circulating subject stalls and having discussions with teachers. This is usually a very intense evening for both parents and teachers involved with lots of information conveyed in a relatively short period of time. Last Academic year due to the Coronavirus Pandemic, we had to make some adaptations to our normal process. We developed an internal Curriculum Pathways Google Site which allowed us to communicate even more information than would have been possible during a physical evening and in an efficient and timely manner. Due to positive feedback we have decided to replicate this process again this Academic year.
Our key priorities are: to ensure that your child is supported to make the right choices and to ensure that you, as parents/carers, have a clear understanding and are fully involved in the process.
To this end the pathways process will commence on Friday 18 March 2022 with the launch of our Year 9 Curriculum Pathways event. The event will be hosted via the internal Curriculum Pathways Google Site which has dedicated pages for each subject. The benefit of this approach is that both you and your child will have access to important information which can be viewed and revisited at your leisure prior to making important decisions regarding the subject/s that your child would prefer to study in Key Stage 4. We hope that this approach will lead to more informed decisions as you will have the opportunity to view subject videos and read subject information from the website over an extended period of time.
- An introduction from Mr Watson regarding the Pathways process.
- A presentation from Mr Rahman explaining the Pathways process further, the pathways offered and how to complete the Pathways form.
- Individual pages for our compulsory core subjects and presentations from our core subject leaders in English, Maths, Science, Core PE and Religious Studies/Ethics to explain what all students will continue to study.
- Individual subject pages and presentations from our subject leaders for all the Options subjects, explaining about what their courses offer and giving some insight into what their subjects involve at GCSE in order to ensure your child makes an informed decision about their subject choices.
We have allocated your child to one of two Key Stage 4 pathways (EBacc and Extended Open Option) in order to ensure that they are on the most appropriate and challenging pathway for them.
We will send you an online Google form which corresponds to the pathway that your child has been allocated; the form will be sent to you on Friday 18 March 2022 in order to give you time to browse the pathways website and discuss possible options as a family prior to filling out the form.
The deadline for the return of all Option forms is Saturday 26 March 2022.
If you have any questions or concerns after the launch of the event, please do not hesitate to contact me.
Yours sincerely,
Mr K Watson
Vice Principal
