At approximately 2pm today a member of staff discovered a suspect package in one of our school buildings. In accordance with our policies we immediately contacted the emergency services who advised that, as a matter of precaution, we evacuate the academy as per our normal fire evacuation procedures.
The police are currently managing the situation and we are cooperating with them to ensure the ongoing safety of our students and staff.
The school day ended at 14:50 today and students exited the site in a safe and orderly fashion via Riefield Road and staff walked with them to the bus stops. Due to the nature of the evacuation students were not able to return to the building to collect their belongings and therefore staff will assist with any problems that this creates and the site will be secured this evening once we are able to do so.
Staff liaised with bus drivers and students without Oyster cards were able to travel. We will also be liaising with the bus companies to ensure those students can travel tomorrow
As we are unable to return to the building at the moment we are unable to answer the phones so please re-direct any enquiries to our Trust head office on 01634 412 200
We will update this page regularly but in the meantime please be assured that all students are safe and accounted for. As you will appreciate in situations like this we will always put student welfare first but please accept our apologies for any disruption this may have caused.
