Dear Parents/Carers,
I recently shared a survey link with you to gauge how your child is engaging with PSHE/RSE, which was recently rebranded as ‘Life Education: Live a fulfilled and fruitful life’. This ‘rebrand’ took place after consultation and collaboration between key staff members at the academy with responsibility for Personal and Character Development, in a bid to make the lessons more meaningful, engaging, relevant and responsive. In the first Life Education lesson, just after the Winter break, the rebranded PSHE/RSE lessons were launched with all staff communicating a clear message about why teach and learn about Life Education. For you information, take a look at this session: Life Education Launch 2023 Students. Our aim is to ensure all lessons are dialogic in approach, with students having choice over which learning tasks (Mind-map/Edu-poster/Script/Poem/Letter) they use in response to the learning.
Also, please take a look at a sample lesson plan:
Year 7, 8 & 9 Life Lesson January WB 6th Feb Time to Talk
Our Life Education lessons are planned to meet the needs of students at Stationers’ Crown Woods Academy and are tailored for each Key Stage or Year Group, using a range of resources including the accredited PSHE Association: https://pshe-association.org.uk/.
It has been wonderful to hear from so many parents/carers who have taken an interest in Life Education and our teaching of RSE; I am always more than happy to answer any questions. In response to these discussions, please see here the list of RSE topics that we cover each academic year. Each module, the Life Education and Form Time calendar will be shared on our website via the ‘Curriculum’ tab. Please take the time to look over this so that you are aware which topics your child has studied and can continue this learning at home. Students in our Dean School will also have the opportunity to engage with Life Education, however, these sessions are adapted by the specialist teachers at the school to meet our Dean students’ needs.
Please note, we encourage all students to engage with these carefully planned, age appropriate lessons, however, should you like to withdraw your child from the ‘Sex Education’ aspects of the Life Education lessons, please email me to set-up an appointment to discuss further: alan.warburton@swca.org.uk.
Yours sincerely,
Mr A Warburton
Director of Creative Arts Faculty and PSHE
