Dear SCWA Community,
This week, I’m pleased to share several exciting updates that align with our core values of scholarship, fellowship, and leadership.
Our Combined Cadet Force served as carpet guards at The Stationers’ Company Charter Dinner, looking exceptionally smart in their uniforms. In the sporting arena, our Dean School students had their first rowing session at the Olympic Park after rigorous preparation in the academy.
With our Year 11 and 13 students preparing for their examinations, our energy and attention will shift to support them through focused revision sessions and examination warm-ups. We are committed to ensuring they are fully prepared for success during this crucial time. Our support includes key knowledge and skills sessions, tips and reminders, and exam strategies. These efforts are designed to maximise their chances of achieving their best possible outcomes.
Looking ahead, there are many exciting events and initiatives on the horizon. Here’s to another productive week at SCWA!
Best wishes,
Joseph Sparks | Principal, Stationers’ Crown Woods Academy
SCWA Combined Cadet Force Serves as Carpet Guards at Charter Dinner
On Wednesday, 1 May 2023, the Combined Cadet Force (CCF) of Stationers’ Crown Woods Academy took on the role of carpet guards at The Stationers’ Hall in London for the company’s annual Charter Dinner. This event commemorates the granting of the company’s Royal Charter by Queen Mary Tudor on 4 May 1557.
The cadets were accompanied by Principal Mr Sparks and Major Wilson. In reflecting on the event, Mr Sparks said, “It was great to see our seven cadets in their ceremonial uniform, supporting The Stationers’ Company at their annual Charter Dinner.” This event holds significant importance in The Stationers’ Company’s calendar, and the cadets received praise from the guests for their excellent contribution.

Dean School’s Successful Rowing Trip at the Olympic Park
On Wednesday, 1 May 2024, Key Stage 4 students from Dean School experienced their first on-the-water rowing session, led by London Youth Rowing on the River Lea at the Olympic Park. The students have been training hard in school, developing their technique and building stamina, which they put into practice on the water.
Ms. Bartlett, SENDCo of Dean School, commented, “The students have been using rowing machines regularly, covering distances of up to 5000m in a single session. Their hard work paid off, as they enjoyed their time on the river and are eager to return next week. Hamid, one of the students on the trip, expressed his excitement, stating, ‘It was so much fun, but we were all very tired at the end!'”

- Key Knowledge and Skills: Covering essential topics for the exam paper.

Session Schedule:

Each session will last for one hour. The planned timetable for these sessions is available and can be accessed here. Additionally, we advise students to consider pausing or adjusting their part-time job roles during the exam season or ensure they can attend the necessary warm-up sessions before going to work. The next six weeks of focused revision are crucial to achieving the best possible outcomes in the summer exams.
Revision Corner: Tips for Effective Study Habits
As we approach the Year 11 and 13 public examinations, Stationers’ Crown Woods Academy will be posting a series of revision hints and tips to support our students in preparing effectively. Here are some strategies to help enhance study sessions:
Establish a routine: Encourage your child to establish a consistent study routine. Setting aside specific times for revision each day helps create a sense of structure and discipline. Consistency is key to effective revision and helps prevent procrastination.
Practice tests: Administer practice tests or past exam papers to assess your child’s understanding of the material. Practice tests simulate the exam environment and help identify areas of strength and weakness, allowing for targeted revision.
New Knowledge Booklets and Assessments at SCWA
Stationers’ Crown Woods Academy will be releasing new Knowledge Booklets on Google Classroom starting Monday, 6 May 2024. These booklets are tailored to each student’s year group, aiming to provide structure and clarity in their homework process.
The academy has recently completed a series of knowledge acquisition assessments across all year groups. These assessments, consisting of multiple-choice questions, are designed to evaluate students’ understanding of the material in their knowledge acquisition booklets, which play a key role in the academy’s approach to homework. In recognition of academic achievements, the academy plans to celebrate student accomplishments in upcoming assemblies, where awards will be presented. Students who missed the assessments due to illness will be able to complete them at home, ensuring everyone has the chance to participate. This approach allows for comprehensive reporting on student performance.
Parents can expect to receive these assessment reports by Friday, 24 May 2024, through the MCAS system.
