SCWA Latest News Updates | Module 6 Week 3

Dear Parents/Careers,

This week we’ve seen our values of scholarship, fellowship, and leadership come to life in various areas of school life. Our first ever Sports Celebration Evening was a resounding success, highlighting the importance of fellowship and leadership in team sports. Congratulations to all of our winners, particularly Grace, Finley, and Elliot, who embody the dedication, team spirit, and caring demeanour we encourage in all our students.

Emphasising the value of scholarship, a group of our Year 10 students are preparing to visit Cambridge University. We believe in opening doors to world-class academic institutions, and this visit will surely inspire our students to strive for the best in their future studies.

Meanwhile, the Year 11 students are looking forward to their Prom Night, a grand signifying the end of their academic year. To all of our Year 11 students, who finished their final core examination today (Friday, 16 June 2023), we wish you all the very best for future.

Best wishes,
Joseph Sparks
Principal, Stationers’ Crown Woods Academy

Sports Celebration Evening

On Thursday, 8 June 2023, we celebrated our first ever Sports Celebration Evening, which was attended by over 100 parents/carers.

Throughout the evening, hundreds of prizes were distributed across various team sports, underlining our students’ talent, dedication, and team spirit. Ms Allen Allen, Director of Learning for Sport, was thrilled with the triumphs of our students. “It was profoundly moving to witness our brilliant athletes receiving their well-deserved recognition,” said Ms Allen. “Their perseverance and dedication to their sports are genuinely inspiring.”

Our top honours for the evening went to three standout students. The award for Sportswoman of the Year was given to Grace of Year 10, while Sportsman of the Year was proudly won by Finley of Year 9. The prestigious 2012 award was presented to Elliot in Year 9, not only for his outstanding contribution to various teams but also for his supportive and caring demeanour.

In reflecting on the evening, Principal Mr Sparks said: “I would like to express my utmost pride and admiration for our young sports players. Our students continue to impress us with their commitment and passion for sport. This evening was not just a celebration of their athletic achievements but also a testament to their character. Congratulations to all award recipients, and a big thank you to everyone who made this event possible.”

As we move forward from this successful celebration, we are excited to announce several upcoming sports events.
Greenwich Schools Athletics Championships 2023: The girls’ championship will take place on Tuesday, 27 June 2023, and the boys’ championship will follow on Tuesday, 4 July 2023.

Year 10 Students to Visit Cambridge University

A group of our Year 10 students are set to visit Gonville and Caius College at Cambridge University on Wednesday, 5 July 2023.

This one-day trip will allow the students to explore academic life as they engage with renowned academics and learn about the opportunities that await them post-Sixth Form at one of the world’s top universities. In addition to the academic focus, students will experience the rich history and architecture of Caius College, with a punt along the River Cam offering a scenic view of the campus. Let’s hope for good weather!

Assistant Principal Hayder Khan remarked on the trip, “This visit will inspire our students and highlight the possibilities of studying at world-class institutions like Cambridge University.”

Year 11 Prom Night: A Grand Celebration Awaits

We’re excited to announce that the much-anticipated Year 11 Prom 2023 will be held this Wednesday, 21 June 2023. Set to take place at the Marriott Hotel Bexleyheath starting at 7 pm, the event promises to be a splendid evening of celebration.

As we prepare for the occasion, here are a few important reminders for parents and students:

  • While you can drop off your child at the event, please note that there is no onsite parking available at the hotel.
  • We will have a list of students who have purchased tickets at the door. There is no need for your child to collect a physical ticket in advance.
  • For the safety and security of everyone, bag searches will be conducted upon entry.

Assistant Principal and Event Organiser, Ms Marsh, said: “This year has been filled with significant milestones and achievements. Our Year 11 students have shown remarkable resilience and dedication, and we’re thrilled to celebrate the conclusion of their journey in style. We’re looking forward to a memorable evening filled with joy, laughter, and shared memories. See you at the Prom!”

Chromebook Returns for Year 11 & Year 13 Students: A Reminder

As the loan agreement for the Chromebooks issued to Year 11 and Year 13 students is expiring in June 2023, we will continue collecting Chromebooks and chargers next week. On the day of their last exam, Year 11 and Year 13 students can return their devices and chargers to the reception of their respective small schools. A staff member will inspect the device for any damages and issue an acknowledgement slip to the students confirming the return of the device and charger.

Please note that the chargers must be handed in along with the Chromebook. We recommend purchasing replacement chargers in advance in case of loss or damage. Official Lenovo chargers can be purchased from Valuetach via the eBay Shop for £16 each (including delivery). For any questions or concerns, please contact Assistant Principal Amandeep Kalote via email: amandeep.kalote@scwa.org.uk.
