All children applying for a place at Stationers’ Crown Woods Academy are required to sit the Fair Banding Test.
My other child attends Stationers’ Crown Woods Academy, does my child still need to sit the Fair Banding Test? Yes all children applying for a place must sit the Fair Banding Test.
The Fair Banding Test registration deadline is 31st October 2021.

The Greenwich Secondary Transfer Booklet provides the number of applications made for September 2021 in each band. This should only be used as a guide as this can vary year-on-year depending on the number of applications received.
You can apply for schools in any area, but if you live in Royal Greenwich you need to make your application through them. If you live in another borough, you need to make your application through your home authority even if you would like to apply for a place in a Royal Greenwich school.
Academies are all-ability, state-funded schools established and managed by a sponsor. The sponsor seeks to make a complete break with cultures of low aspiration currently affecting too many schools and communities.
Academies are set up with the backing of the Local Authority and, whilst the Academy is not maintained by the Local Authority, collaboration still exists.
Academies are bound by the same Admissions Code, SEND Code of Practice and exclusions guidance as all other state-funded schools.
Leigh Academies Trust is a non-profit making charitable company limited by guarantee, based in Strood, Medway. The Trust exists to support and assist schools to build upon their existing strengths and to help them achieve rapid educational transformation. It has significant experience in running schools, and today includes both sponsored academies and schools which have chosen to convert to Academy status.
The Trust was formed in 2008 with the linking of the Leigh Technology Academy and Longfield Academy under one governing body. It encompasses 15,000 students between the ages of 2 and 19 in twenty three primary, secondary and special academies including one all-through and one grammar school. Today the Stationers’ Company has over 900 members, the vast majority of whom are senior executives in the complete range of trades within the Communications and Content industries, from paper, print, publishing, packaging, office products, newspapers, broadcasting and online media. Membership is drawn from across the UK and increasingly throughout the world and now includes major companies as well as individual members.
Since 1557 the Company has been involved with education, initially in the management of apprenticeships for its trades but in 1861 it opened the Stationers’ School just off Fleet Street and later moved to Hornsey. This, sadly, was closed in 1984 and the partnership with Crown Woods in September 2014 marks the end of a long quest to find another school to support. The Company has pledged to offer support to the Academy, in a variety of ways: By providing four governors, by contributing to the development of a specialist digital media curriculum and to provide specialist equipment to support it, by providing experienced people to mentor students and to provide links to suitable businesses to offer work experience, careers advice, work placements and apprenticeships and by providing funds to insure that all students have an equal opportunity to participate fully in the digital curriculum.
Our students are set according to ability and join one of three Small Schools. Staff in all Schools have the same high expectations for all students; lessons are stretching and challenging to ensure that each student achieves, or exceeds, their full potential. Delamere School is made up of 90 students whose prior attainment levels are of high ability. Ashdown and Sherwood Schools are identical schools in terms of mixed ability intake. All schools follow the same curriculum.
We offer french and spanish language options. You will be asked for your preference if you have secured a place at the academy.
Alongside other academies within the Leigh Academies Trust we are a candidate school for the International Baccalaureate Middle Years Programme (IB MYP). This means that we are on our way to becoming an IB World School, joining over 4,700 schools worldwide in delivering IB Programmes.
The content delivered across Key Stage 3 is consistent with the UK National Curriculum, however, the IB MYP acts as a vehicle through which this content is delivered. The Programme aims to develop inquiring, knowledgeable, caring and compassionate young people who help to create a better and more peaceful world thorgy intercultural understanding and respect.
Stationers’ Crown Woods Academy staff are excited to be working with Academies across the LAT to ensure that we deliver a challenging programme of global education and rigorous assessment, whilst holistically addressing students intellectual, social emotional and physical wellbeing.
The International Baccalaureate® (IB) Middle Years Programme (MYP) comprises eight subject groups:
- Language acquisition
- Language and literature.
- Individuals and societies
- Physical and health education
Many parents/carers and students worry about starting secondary school. The Academy is committed to the provision of a safe, loving and respectful environment. The Small School Family system responds to this in an innovative and positive fashion. Students are encouraged to look after each other and act as positive role models. Older students have responsibilities for looking after younger students and acting as peer mentors should they ever have any worries. Senior staff are on duty at break and lunchtime to ensure all our students are safe and secure.
The Inclusion department works collaboratively with all Home Schools and departments across the Academy to ensure that students are able to access and enjoy all aspects of Academy life. As an Academy, we ensure that students have access to appropriate levels of support, enabling them to become confident, resilient and independent learners. Our aim is to ensure that all students reach their academic and social potential, and are fully prepared for the next stage of their journey into further and higher education, training and employment.
The Inclusion department is based in the Symphony Centre. We deliver a range of interventions that support students to make progress academically, socially and emotionally. Interventions may include specific dyslexia interventions, literacy and numeracy support, speech and language group interventions, social skills group interventions, counselling and mentoring. We work with a range of external practitioners to ensure that our programmes of support are highly effective, and personalised to meet individual student needs.

We use Google Classroom to set homework. Your teacher will invite you to a virtual classroom where you will be able to communicate with your teachers about your learning and see the assignments you need to do, access resources, collaborate with your peers and submit assignments. It keeps everything in one place so you know where to find everything. Don’t worry if you’ve never used Google Classroom before, we will give you and your parents/carers all the training and guidance you need when you start.
We believe that high expectations around uniform form the basis for students to show pride in their learning and in their Academy and in themselves. Consequently, students strive to achieve the highest standards academically, thus securing the best life chances. We are proud of our students and want them to be proud to belong to our Academy. Our Uniform and Appearance Policy is clear and simple and strictly enforced.
We place great importance on healthy living and offer a wide range of activities for students to enjoy. Competitive and non-competitive sport is available to all year groups and our termly intra-mural sports competitions are keenly supported by competitors and spectators alike.
Outside space includes:
- An all-weather, floodlit 4G Astroturf pitch
- A MUGA (multi-use games area for netball/basketball/tennis etc.).
- Playing fields with 2 football pitches & one rugby pitch (winter);
- A 400m running track, javelin & shot put areas, long jump and areas for softball & rounders, as well as a purpose built cricket pitch. (Summer)
Inside space includes:
- An Olympic sized sports hall with retractable seating to accommodate up to 450 spectators.
- 6 badminton courts
- Full size exhibition basketball court
- An activity studio with a sprung floor for dance, gymnastics & boxing
Stationers’ Crown Woods Academy values student engagement and contribution. We believe that our students can have a profound impact on both developing our aims and improving our provision. We know that involvement in Student Leadership projects can improve learning and develop the skills and traits needed for success outside of the classroom but in addition to this it encourages young people to think about others by considering how best to serve the community that they are a part of. Our Student Leadership provision therefore aims to enable young people to realise their potential whilst building on necessary skills, confidence and motivation to allow students to engage directly in the wider improvement of the school. The programme aims to encourage deeper student engagement and empower the partnership between students and staff; building a sense of community and trust in the school. SCWA is committed to giving students the opportunity to participate actively in academy life and as such offers a range of leadership opportunities.
Attendance is of the utmost importance and to ensure your child’s attendance is on track it will be periodically analysed and they will be placed into cohort 1 -5.

The daily queues in our restaurant speak for themselves, our catering contractors, Cucina, are a big hit with students and staff!
Serving a huge range of healthy, freshly cooked food at breakfast, break and lunchtimes – from traditional British roast dinners to world cuisine – students are spoiled for choice. Cucina even offer an after-school ‘take-away’ service providing freshly cooked roast chickens or delicious pizzas for students to take home and share with their families.
We expect outstanding conduct and respectful attitudes at all times. The overwhelming majority of our students meet these high expectations. Occasionally students make poor choices and face consequences for their actions in the form of after-school time-debts. Parents/Carers are notified by telephone for any time debts over 20 minutes.
Students are not allowed to carry prescribed medication on them and must leave it with their home school reception should they need to take medicine during the school day. Written consent from parents must be received before administering any medicine to a student at the Academy.
Medicines will only be accepted for administration if they are prescribed, in date, labelled and in their original container as dispensed by the pharmacist and they include instruction for administration, dosage and storage.
We operate a full programme of enrichment activities during lunchtimes and after school, these include House Band, African Drumming, Combined Cadet Force, DoE, Sports Teams, Art Projects, Homework Clubs, Revision Sessions, Jazz/Brass & String, Dance, Wheelchair Tennis, Athletics, Design Technology Projects and many more.
Arden Sixth Form is a Post 16 school and is part of the Stationers’ Crown Woods Academy. In Arden you will find a thriving, energetic and friendly community where pupils achieve excellent results in both academic and vocational courses. It provides a caring and supportive environment where every individual matters.
