Dear Parents/Carers,
I am pleased to welcome your children back to the academy and hope that you and your families have all had a restful festive break. I wanted to take this opportunity to contact you with a few notices specific to our Year 11 pupils.
Mock Examination Results
After lots of hard work and revision, pupils will receive their well-earned mock examination results on Friday 6 January. Pupils will collect their results during the final lesson of the day and staff members will be on hand to celebrate their achievements and support them in their reflections on how to continue to improve. Results will also be sent home to you via email and will be made available via MCAS afterwards.
Intervention Sessions
Our next round of intervention sessions will begin on Friday 6 January and will run until the next set of mock examinations begin. These will predominantly be small group intervention sessions with a focus on specific skills or topics that your child may need to focus on. Pupils will receive a personalised timetable for the sessions that they have been invited to attend.
Year 11 Parent/Carer Evening – Thursday 12 January 2023
In line with our academy calendar, we look forward to welcoming you to the academy on Thursday 12 January for our Year 11 Parent/Carer Evening. The evening will run from 4.30pm-7pm and I am delighted to confirm that the booking window for appointments is now open and will close at the end of the day on Wednesday 11 January.
Parents’ evenings are key communication events in the academy’s calendar. They award you with the opportunity to receive feedback about your child’s progress, discuss their strengths, areas for development and plan for improvements. I would like to take this opportunity to remind you that parents and carers are always welcome to contact their child’s home school at any time during the course of the academic year to ask for feedback on their child if they have concerns or queries.
As well as having the opportunity to discuss your child’s progress with their teachers, there will also be various stalls where you will have the opportunity to talk to staff about revision materials to support your child, opportunities at Arden sixth form, our new and exciting T-Levels as well as effective SEN support.
To ensure that you are able to secure your preferred appointment slots with your child’s teacher, it is advised that you book as soon as possible. If you are unable to secure a specific appointment, the SchoolCloud system will allow you to place yourself on a waiting list; an appointment will then be booked on your behalf if one becomes available. If you are unable to book an appointment with a particular teacher, have any queries, or need to make alternative arrangements you can contact them by email. If you wish to communicate via email please use the format: firstname.lastname@scwa.org.uk.
You will receive an email confirming the appointments you have made. Please note that we are only able to schedule one appointment for each student per subject, so parents/carers who are the main contact for your child should book appointments.
Please visit https://scwa.schoolcloud.co.uk/ to book your appointments and login. The login screen has a
section which will require you to fill in ‘Your Details’ (as a parent/carer) and a ‘Student Details’ section which relates to your child.
Information Evening: English, Maths & Science
Following on from October’s successful Information Evening, we are due to host our second event on Tuesday 31 January, 6-7pm. This event will focus on how best to support your child in their preparation for sitting their English, Maths and Science GCSEs.
Second Mock Examination Window
Our next round of mock examinations will begin on Monday 27 February. This is a great opportunity for pupils to practise their revision skills and gain an exam hall experience before the summer external exams begin. It will also allow teachers to provide your child with invaluable feedback so they know where they need to focus their efforts.
This mock examination period will be shorter than the previous one and we will be selective about which papers pupils sit, primarily focussing on areas or topics which have not yet been assessed in mock examination conditions. We are currently in the process of finalising the timetable for this set of mock examinations and we will share in due course.
Thank You
Finally, I would like to thank you for your continued support throughout the academic year so far. This is a very crucial year for your child and we appreciate that it can also be exceptionally challenging. We want to do our very best to work with you to support them through the rest of this year so that they can reach their full potential and move forward to their chosen destination at the end of it.
Should you have any questions or concerns then please do not hesitate to contact me by email (stephen.smith@scwa.org.uk).
Kind Regards,
Mr S Smith
Assistant Principal
