Dear SCWA Community,

This week at Stationers’ Crown Woods Academy has been marked by significant achievements that reflect our commitment to our academy’s core values: scholarship, fellowship, and leadership.

I’m delighted that we’ve received ‘Leading’ ratings in all categories from the Challenge Partners review. This achievement is a testament to the hard work and dedication of our entire community. It highlights our strength in leadership and our collective drive towards academic excellence.

Furthermore, our KS4 Options Information Evening was a huge success, with a strong turnout from parents and carers. This event is a great example of the fellowship within our community, as we come together to support our students in making informed decisions about their future. The British Science Week’s Animal Workshop provided a unique learning opportunity, demonstrating our commitment to engaging and practical science education. Not only did our students have the opportunity to hold a Burmese python, but so did I…despite my initial hesitation. This workshop provided an opportunity for students to directly interact with science, fostering a sense of curiosity and respect for the natural world. Finally, our Year 7 girls’ football team’s victory in the Blackheath Cup Final showcases their talent and teamwork. This win not only adds to our school’s achievements but also highlights the importance of sportsmanship and collective effort.

Our next Latest News Page updates will be published on Thursday, 28 April 2024.

Best wishes,
Joseph Sparks | Principal, Stationers’ Crown Woods Academy

SCWA Achieves ‘Leading’ Ratings in Challenge Partners Review

Stationers’ Crown Woods Academy recently welcomed a five-member review team from Challenge Partners, including two former headteachers, a former Ofsted inspector, and two Vice Principals from the Leigh Academies Trust, for a comprehensive three-day evaluation.

The review focused on three critical areas: Leadership at all Levels, Quality of Provision and Outcomes, and Overall Effectiveness, with possible judgements of “Leading” (Outstanding), “Effective” (Good), or “Working Toward Effective” (Requires Improvement).

We are thrilled to announce that SCWA has achieved the following grades:

  • Leadership at all Levels: Leading
  • Quality of Provision and Outcomes: Leading
  • Overall effectiveness: Leading

Mr Sparks, Principal, said “This is a remarkable achievement and speaks volumes about the dedication, hard work, and exceptional quality of our team across all areas of our academy, from teaching and learning, pastoral care, and pupil behaviour and attitudes, to personal development. The review team was especially impressed by the ambition, drive, and energy demonstrated by our staff, noting that our team members are a credit to SCWA. Such feedback underscores the significant impact of our strategies, systems, and processes that have been established and embedded this year. This achievement is a clear indication of our academy’s progression towards becoming an outstanding institution, and it reflects the exceptional work being done at SCWA every day.”

The full report, detailing the review’s highlights, will be shared next week. It will offer further insight into our achievements and areas for continuous improvement.

British Science Week Animal Workshop Success at SCWA

During British Science Week, SCWA hosted an Animal Workshop, introducing students to around 36 exotic animals, including frogs, geckos, tortoises, three species of python, and meerkats. The event provided students with invaluable hands-on learning experiences, enhancing their understanding of animal life cycles. A notable highlight was the opportunity for students to interact closely with a Burmese python, one of the largest python species, through handling and photographing the animal. This activity showcased the practical and interactive facets of science education.

Ms Boyd, STEM Lead at SCWA, commented on the event’s significance: “This workshop was a fantastic opportunity for our students to engage directly with a variety of animals, enriching their learning and fostering a deeper appreciation for the natural world. Such experiences are invaluable, offering insights into the lives of these creatures beyond the textbook and sparking curiosity about science in a way that traditional classroom settings may not always capture.”

SCWA Year 7 Girls Win Blackheath Cup Final 5-0

The Stationers’ Crown Woods Academy Year 7 girls’ football team clinched their second trophy of the season with a 5-0 victory over Prendergast Hillyfields in the Blackheath Cup Final at Long Lane Football Club on Thursday, 21 March 2024. The game started cautiously, with both teams evenly matched until Neeve W’s precise finish opened the scoring 15 minutes in. Further goals from Lyla M and Neeve W, including a completed hat trick by Neeve, alongside strategic half-time adjustments, led to a dominant second half. The defence played a key role as the pace slowed, securing a comprehensive 5-0 win.
