Dear Parents/Carers,
It is with great pleasure and excitement that I write to you as the incoming Principal of Stationers’ Crown Woods Academy (SCWA).
I would like to express my heartfelt gratitude to my predecessor, Subreena Kazmi, for her hard work, dedication and unwavering commitment to SCWA. Subreena has set a high standard, paving the way for continued growth and success; I look forward to building on the strong foundations she established.
The final module of the academic year is crucial, particularly for our Year 11 and Year 13 pupils who are completing their summer examinations. Please rest assured that we are committed to supporting them during this critical time, providing all the necessary resources to ensure they are ready to excel. The module six arrangements for Years 11 and 13 can be found below. In addition, this module holds particular importance as we plan and prepare for September 2023. We are dedicated to refining our teaching methodologies, enhancing our environment, and streamlining processes to offer our students and parents/carers the best possible experience.
One of my primary goals for this module is to foster more open and regular communication with our community. I am keen to get to know you – our students and parents/carers – better to understand your experiences, perspectives and aspirations. Your thoughts, suggestions, and feedback will be invaluable as we move forward together. In line with this commitment to communication, I am pleased to announce that starting today, I will be sharing weekly updates on our Latest News page. Every Saturday, this page will include a round-up of the past week’s news and events and important information for the week ahead. I believe this will serve as an effective platform for us to stay connected and well-informed.
In the coming weeks, I will be arranging a series of events and meetings to provide an opportunity for us to meet and interact. I look forward to working with you – our parents/carers and the wider community – as we embark on this new chapter together.
Best wishes,
Joseph Sparks
Principal, Stationers’ Crown Woods Academy

Year 13 Graduation
On Friday, 26 May 2023, over 100 Year 13 pupils, their proud parents/carers, and teachers came together for the Annual Arden Graduation.
Assistant Principal, Joe Spark, said: “Our Year 13s came dressed to impress as they filled the Main Hall of The Crown Building. The graduation not only marks the end of their time at SCWA but also celebrates their dedication and commitment, not only to their studies but also to extracurricular activities, community service, and personal development. This year’s graduation provided a fitting testament to our students’ hard work and dedication, celebrated alongside cherished memories of their time at SCWA.”
Amongst the subject and tutor awards, the Arden Star Student Award went to Charlie. Joe Spark explained: “Charlie has consistently demonstrated an unwavering commitment to his studies. From the moment he joined seven years ago, he embarked on a journey fuelled by ambition. Charlie has embraced challenges with open arms, dedicating countless hours to mastering his subjects. His journey has been one of continuous growth and self-improvement. We are confident that when Charlie opens his results envelope this August, his grades will reflect his hard work and enable him to study Psychology at King’s College London. From everyone at SCWA, we wish Charlie every success.”
Representatives from The Stationers’ Company – Professor Linda Drew and Jani Levanen – also attended the event to award a £1,200 bursary to one Arden Graduate. The bursary is awarded to one student who is progressing to study in a media and communication-related industry – a field closely related to the work of The Stationers’ Company. Joe Spark said: “Arden Graduate Bethany was awarded the top prize of £1,200 from The Stationers’ Company. Bethany is an incredible student and is seeking a career in media. This grant will support her with her future success.” Principal, Joseph Sparks, added: “This bursary is just one of the annual grants available to pupils that are looking to pursue further or higher education in a field related to the work of The Stationers’ Company. This is just one example of how The Stationers’ Company supports pupils at SCWA. We would like to thank Professor Linda Drew and Jani Levanen for attending our Arden Graduation and for providing Bethany with this wonderful opportunity.”
Celebration of Success
During modules four and five, SCWA pupils accumulated over 60,000 commendation points. Head of School, Anthony Farr, said: “Our pupils have been busy receiving commendation points for positive behaviours linked to the IB Learner Profile. It’s wonderful to see our students actively embodying the characteristics that the IB encourages. These characteristics include being inquirers, knowledgeable, thinkers, communicators, principled, open-minded, caring, risk-takers, balanced, and reflective. The accumulation of over 60,000 commendation points reflects the commitment and dedication of the SCWA students in living up to the ideals of the IB Learner Profile.”
The following five pupils, in Ashdown, Sherwood and Delamere, have achieved the highest number of points in modules four and five. Each pupil will be awarded a certificate and a £10 Amazon voucher during the first week of module six.
